So It’s (Finally) Official
This past Wednesday, snake-in-the-grass Governor Ron DeSantis finally made his presidential campaign official.
Before I continue, I am sorry for the lack of updates. I don’t know how many people even view my blog anymore – probably not much – but I figure I’d make one anyway. A lot of things – work, a cat in heat, depression – have kept me from updating as much as I should. I am going to try to change that.
There is something that I do want to say, and it’s this: DeSantis is truly, hugely, and incredibly disappointing.
This is the same guy that is only governor of Florida because Trump endorsed him, promoted him and campaigned for him. He knows that Trump and Trump’s supporters (including me) believe that the 2020 Presidential election was stolen and that Trump, not Biden, is the rightful president of this country. Even if he didn’t believe that the 2020 election was stolen – and I have a feeling he does not believe it was stolen – this is still a truly stupid thing to do unless he has an iron clad rebuttal to Trump’s claims of stolen elections, and not the usual crap coming from the Democrats and the mainstream media.
He is not going to get the Republican nomination nor is he going to win the 2024 Presidential election without Trump supporters. Period. And a lot of Trump supporters are absolutely pissed off at him.
Which begs the question – why does DeSantis and his GOP establishment backers think this is a good idea? I am amazed at how they think this is going to work, although I shouldn’t be surprised. Take a look at how the Republican Party leaders handled the 2008 and 2012 Presidential elections. They put forth the shittiest establishment candidates and in 2008, chose Sarah Palin just so they could claim their ticket was “historic” too, then promptly sabotaged her and left her twisting in the wind so much that a bunch of Alaskan bloggers decimated her political career and forced her to resign at the tail-end of her one and only term as governor. She only recently got back into politics by running for a Senate seat that she lost due to the absolutely asinine election laws in Alaska.
I remember when Romney and Ryan lost the 2012 election and more importantly, the GOP establishment’s reaction to it – we had to stop fighting against illegal immigration and embrace Hispanics so that they’d vote Republican in the future.
Funnily enough, Paul Ryan, Romney’s former running mate, is on the board of directors for Fox News and he’s one of the cronies behind DeSantis’s presidential campaign.
I shouldn’t be surprised that they think this is a good idea – look at how many issues the Republicans have lost on. Ugh.
I am very dismayed at this turn of events, since Trump had thrown so much support to DeSantis, and as I mentioned in my entry “DeSanctimonious”, loyalty is pretty much everything to Trump. You betray him, you screw him over, and he will be your greatest enemy. So once Trump even got a hint that DeSantis was going to run for the 2024 Republican nomination, he immediately went on the warpath, and people like Dave Rubin were shitting on him for being “divisive” and trying to split the Republican voters. I don’t know how you can be a pundit like Rubin and not see what was happening. Duh, I’m an absolute idiot and I saw it coming a mile away.
DeSantis is absolutely not the kind of person I would ever vote for, for anything. I wouldn’t elect him dog catcher. He’s a total snake-in-the-grass, an exceptionally treacherous asshole. Any idiot could see that even with Trump’s baggage, he’s still the front runner. And why didn’t these people tell DeSantis not to split the Republican vote by trying for the nomination? Only Trump was expected to avoid being divisive.
The only reason the GOP establishment is even bothering with DeSantis is because they need someone Trumpian to serve as a controllable substitute for Trump. DeSantis is that controllable substitute and obviously susceptible to taking bribes of all sorts – Rupert Murdoch not only promised him that Fox News would support his candidacy, but he basically gave DeSantis a book deal, since anytime a politician wants to run for President, they end up publishing a book or two. The Guardian reported on the book deal, which was with Harper Collins, owned by Murdoch, way back in November:
Ron DeSantis book announcement a clear sign of presidential ambition
In the clearest signal yet that Ron DeSantis is preparing a run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, it was announced on Wednesday that the rightwing governor of Florida will publish a campaign-style book, mixing memoir with policy proposals.

DeSantis’s primary appeal to Republicans is the parental rights bill and subsequent fight with Disney over the Reedy Creek district and whatnot. I won’t get into how effective he actually was (with regards to Disney and Reedy Creek…not so much), but this fight is total culture war stuff that the establishment thought they had finally moved past way back in 2015. Establishment types have long since said we had to stop fighting the culture wars and stop protesting against abortion, and gay marriage, and so on, because it was hurting the electoral chances of Republicans all over the country.
Now they want to do a 180 degree turn and choose a total culture warrior as their guy? Of course not – as I said, they just need someone they think will appeal to the Trump supporters they hate so much.
Let’s say somehow Trump drops out of the race, or loses the nomination or whatever, and the GOP establishment gets what they want. DeSantis is sitting pretty as the official Republican nominee for the 2024 Presidential election.
The media will absolutely savage him, as I said in “DeSanctimonious” and the GOP establishment will abandon him. They will let him twist in the wind because they don’t really like him either, but they figure they can control him, especially since he’s not a billionaire like Trump, who doesn’t need their money.
How DeSantis doesn’t see he’s being used by these people is just astonishing to me. He either must not be very bright after all, or is just a power hungry asshole ignoring the obvious.
It’s just so sad, because he had it made – he enjoyed support from the current Republican kingmaker, Donald Trump, is fairly young, already has the brass balls to at least pretend to go up against a leftist corporate behemoth like Disney, and even signed that parental rights bill into law when everyone on the planet was shredding him for supporting the bill. All he had to do was wait until 2028.
I mean, he might think that the country won’t survive another four years of Biden, and yeah, that’s true, but most people believe that Trump will ultimately win against Pedo Joe. Is he so scared that he doesn’t want to take a chance?
Well, he could have just campaigned for being Trump’s running mate, but DeSantis claimed he wasn’t interested, since he was an “executive guy” so it’s likely his ego, and not any real concern over the country.
It bummed me out that Elon Musk basically endorsed him too, but he went on record as being in the tank for DeSantis in 2024 anyway, and that was a while ago, so it’s not surprising that he’d want to use Twitter to support DeSantis and his announcement, although it looks like he wasn’t anywhere near prepared for the amount of traffic the announcement generated, which was cringey and hilarious.
The absolute worst thing about this is that DeSantis basically goaded Florida legislators in drafting a bill, bringing it to the floor and voting on it – a bill that would repeal the law that kept Florida office holders from running for higher office while remaining in their state-level positions. He signed it on May 24, 2023, and that same day announced his candidacy. This actually happened and this just makes our country look like even more of a ridiculous banana republic:
DeSantis signs law allowing him to run for president while remaining governor
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Wednesday that allows him to run for president while still serving as the Sunshine State’s governor – a move that came on the same day he filed paperwork to officially campaign for the Republican nomination.

And here is Breitbart’s reporting of his official announcement:
Ron DeSantis Makes It Official: ‘I’m Running for President’
74 Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) made it publicly official on Wednesday, announcing his candidacy for President of the United States in a Twitter post as technical difficulties plagued the original Twitter Spaces conversation with Elon Musk, where he was poised to make the announcement first.
Which, as I said, happened on May 24. He didn’t even wait a freaking day after signing that bill into law, and of course the Washington Compost downplayed the bill signing, saying the law wasn’t even really necessary but just “clarified” things.
I am enraged at how pundits and commentators on the right are swooning over DeSantis after this despicable stunt he pulled.
This has also been in the works since 2020:
REVEALED: Rupert Murdoch Hosted Ron DeSantis at His California Ranch and Told Him FOX News Will Support Him | The Gateway Pundit | by Jim Hoft
FOX News owner Rupert Murdoch hosted Governor Ron DeSantis at his California Ranch in Bel Air in 2020. He told him FOX News would support his potential run for president in 2024. Since then Murdoch and FOX Corp fired its top host Tucker Carlson who was a favorite of the Trump-MAGA crowd.
The Independent has an interesting take on the Disney-DeSantis feud, with the headline being that Trump called the Disney feud a hoax. Based on this article (which is still biased to the left), it seems that all DeSantis did was replace the board of directors for Reedy Creek with people he appointed, but that all the other benefits Disney had been enjoying are still intact. This newspaper is part of the MSM, so I’d take it with a grain of salt, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Trump was actually right. That’d be the only reason the GOP establishment would be willing to throw their weight behind an obvious culture warrior – that he only looks like one, but is every bit as degenerate as the rest of them.
So I leave you with some compelling reading material. First, this excellent post by Sundance over at The Last Refuge, where he advises us to just laugh at the ridiculous clown show:
DeSantis 102 – Floridians Are Furious – How to Have Fun with The Great Pretending Campaign of 2024 – The Last Refuge
I openly predicted last year, when Ron DeSantis announced his candidacy, we would have the most fun in a presidential primary in history. The last 24 hours have been absolutely hilarious. If you are not having fun at the expense of the DeSantis billionaire funders, you are doing it wrong.
And there’s this colossal dossier of DeSantis’s past over at this Substack, if you want a preview of what the MSM will start braying about if DeSantis actually gets the GOP nomination:
DeSantis Research: Main Menu
Now that the campaign is in full swing and everyone and their brother is reporting on DeSantis’ every move, I’m retiring from reporting on DeSantis to pursue other projects. I will continue to update the Trump Truths DeSantis page.
Politics is so depressing, but also addictive. I have this intense need to know what’s going on, and then I find out what’s going on and I get supremely depressed. At least it will be fun watching DeSantis and his handlers bumble about.
